A 26-year-old cane harvester of lot 32 Sisters Street, Rose Hall Town, Berbice was Tuesday charged and remanded to prison on an attempted murder charge.

Mark Anderson, who was arrested on October 7 2022 for the attempted murder of Lawrence Rodrigues, also of Rose Hall Town, was not required to plead.  The charge was laid contrary to Section 103 (c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

Anderson appeared at the Albion Magistrates Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh where the charge was read to him. He was remanded to prison until September 7th 2022.

Rodrigues was attacked with a cutlass after he reportedly removed a bicycle from the suspect’s premises.

The entire incident was caught on video by neighbours and it showed the victim on the ground yelling in pain while using the bicycle to protect himself from the multiple chops by the suspect.
Rodrigues was subsequently rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and admitted.

A resident of the area had said that the bicycle belonged to Rodrigues and that he had lent the suspect it along with a pressure pot. The victim was reportedly collecting back his property but the suspect was refusing to hand it over. This is what resulted in the argument and subsequent chopping.
