Small businesses can better compete in the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) National Quality Awards competition since the small business category was changed to cater to businesses with 10 employees.
The awards, which focuses on the quality management system of businesses, seeks to reward local businesses for their commitment to quality and standards.
The GBNS found it fitting that small businesses competing for the award in a separate category since they will have a better chance of winning, rather than competing with businesses on the same level.
Marketing Officer George Defreitas and Communications Officer Bibi Khatoon, while giving a breakdown at the launch of the 2023 competition, said the GNBS is continuously trying to ensure that all businesses meet worldwide standards. As such, the competition gives recognition to businesses who participate and meet industry standards in their respective categories.
Defreitas said “it is designed to bring recognition for industry leaders in their class” and “gives businesses a comprehensive assessment of the operations and opportunities for improvement.”
Customer satisfaction, engagement, leadership, continued improvements, following environment guidelines and safety are among the criteria for a business to be awarded.
The business must be registered at the Deeds Registry, have a valid tax compliance from the Guyana Revenue Authority, a valid compliance certificate from the National Insurance Scheme and complete the application to participate.
The winner will walk away with the National Quality Award trophy and funds for recognition and continuous promotional activities.
The categories for competing are manufacturing services, small business and agro-processing. The application fees vary at $10,000 for manufacturing companies, $5,000 for small businesses and $3,000 for agro-processing businesses.
Applications can be sent to the GNBS’ Head office at Sophia, or the sub-offices. The application deadline is December 31.
