Girl, 14, reportedly drowns at Linden creek

Police are investigating the suspected drowning of a 14-year-old girl who has since been identified as Kenneitha Angela Graves, a student of the Linden Foundation Secondary School who resides at Kara Kara, Linden

The incident occurred about 10:00hrs on Saturday at Lower Kara Kara, Mackenzie Linden.

A statement from Police Headquarters noted that at about 09:30hrs, Kenneitha left her home unknowing to her mother Natasha Graves and she went to a house at Lower Kara Kara.

Devika, the woman whose house Kenneitha visited, told police that around that time, the girl was seen standing by a creek which is located at the back of her yard. Devika said she told the teen: “If you cannot swim move from next to the creek.”

Devika said she left the teen standing there and was about to go into her home when she heard someone shouting “help, help”.

She then turned and saw the victim in the water helpless and she was sinking.

On seeing this, Devika said she began to shout for help because she cannot swim. A short while after the the girl’s body submerged under the water. Persons in the area rushed to the creek and immediately started a search but due to the strong current in that area, they were unable to locate the body.

Searches are presently being made to locate the body.
