Construction of home for Badminton and Table Tennis to begin soon, says Sport Minister
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., at the weekend announced that the construction of a home for the racquet sports- Badminton and Table Tennis- will begin soon.
Speaking to representatives and players of both fraternity, Ramson Jr. highlighted that the facility will be housed in the compound of the National National Racquet Centre, Wolford Avenue, Georgetown.
“The project will start in a few days and is expected to be completed within six months,” the Ministry posted on its Facebook page.
“Minister Ramson shared with the gathering that the project was initiated having received the representations from the respective associations over the last two years where the Ministry was able to build a strong working and constructive relationship.”
Minister Ramson also shared that the new facility will be in compliance with international standards to host international tournaments to support President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s announced intention to boost sport tourism in Guyana.
Guyana Table Tennis Association President, Godfrey Munroe, thanked the minister for not only this outcome, but the Ministry’s continued partnership in facilitating several programmes within the last year and most recently Guyana’s hosting of the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation mini and pre cadet championship.
Similarly, current national coach of the Guyana Badminton Association, Emelia Ramdhani, expressed gratitude to Minister Ramson and the Government of Guyana for their continued investment in sport and the strong relationship working to advance the interests of badminton players in Guyana.
