Three arrested after man found dead under house

Three persons are in police custody following the death of a man who is yet to be identified.

The man’s body was found at the bottom of a house at No.78 Village, Springlands, Upper Corentyne, Berbice on Thursday night.

According to the police, the body had marks of violence.

Reports indicate that the three suspects – Suraj Persaud, Vishnu Nankumar, 53, and Robert Stanley, 65 were imbibing and celebrating Nankumar’s birthday.

It is alleged that the dead man went into the house uninvited and picked up a pitchfork owned by Nankumar and reportedly attacked Persaud.

Police said Nankumar then grabbed a piece of wood from in the house and dealt the dead man two lashes to his hands and forehead. But the flooring of the house suddenly collapsed and the dead man fell to the ground.

The body was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital and is now at Anthony’s Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination and identification.

    This is so sad. It is a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. That is a freak accident.
