Sherwin Peters, 21, and his father-in-law Vickram Dohnie were reportedly attacked and chopped by a 17-year-old boy on separate occasions and relatives are accusing the police of sloth in the investigations.

The most recent attack occurred on Friday last at Supenaam, Essequibo Coast.

The News Room understands that Peters was liming with some friends when the teen who was armed with a cutlass attacked him.

“This is the second time he [teen] chop this boy [Peters] and he come with a cutlass and attacked the boy and he fire a chop and the boy push he hand and the cutlass chop way he whole hand inside,” Sharon Bacchus, Dohnie’s wife told the News Room.

She said over a year ago, Peters and the teen were involved in another incident where Peters was chopped to his head. Peters is currently admitted at the Suddie Hospital and is expected to undergo surgery for his injured hand.

On August 15 2022, Dohnie was attacked by the teen. He was chopped on his hand.

“He chop my husband too and the police not doing anything, they say how the matter gotta go [Director of Public Prosecutions] and the welfare gotta come, it is four months now he chop my husband,” Bacchus related.

Reports were made to the Aurora Police Station but Bacchus said they are not satisfied with the investigation by the police. She added that she operates a business at the Supenaam Stelling and is now fearful of being attacked by the teen.

“He [teen] was arrested and they lose him and said he is a juvenile; they can’t lock him up. But something has to be done about him cause he can’t get people not walking the road,” Bacchus said.

When contacted by the News Room, Regional Commander Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran said the teen will likely be rearrested since he is a repeat offender.

“As a result of that, I give a certain directive and we have to take into consideration he is not a first-time offender, he is a repeat offender so you can rest assured some action will be taken.

“He was in custody before but because he is a juvenile there are certain guidelines and SOPs we have to follow as it relates to the Juvenile Act so the police as we speak, there is an active investigation,” Commander Shivbaran stated.
