Alick Athanaze stroked his second consecutive ton and Kavem Hodge added one of his own, as Windward Islands Volcanoes defeated Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) by 50 runs in the Cricket West Indies’ CG United Super50 Cup on Wednesday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.

Batting first, Volcanoes powered their way to 300-4 from the allotted 50 overs, and when rain came and forced an end to the contest, CCC were 109-4 from 23 overs, 50 runs behind the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern par score.

Athanaze, who scored a magnificent 133 against Guyana Harpy Eagles on Monday at the same venue, smashed 16 fours and three sixes in a belligerent 140 from 129 balls.

Hodge scored an unbeaten 106 off 131 balls (4x4s, 2x6s), the pair adding 208 for the second wicket. It was Athanaze and Hodge’s second successive century partnership for the second wicket.

Andre Fletcher thumped two sixes in 30* off 19 at the backend of the innings. Amari Goodridge took 2-56 for CCC.

In reply, CCC lost wickets regularly with Demario Richards making 24, Kristan Kallicharan 23 and Denesh Ramdin 21*.

It was CCC’s second loss in as many games, after a seven-wicket defeat to Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on Monday.
