Police on Tuesday arrested two men from Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, who allegedly falsely reported that they were robbed by six men on bicycles who were armed with knives.

According to a police report, the duo identified as Vijay Deochand and Lincoln Scott claimed that they were robbed at Friendship, EBD.

Police revealed that the two men – a 35-year-old mason and a 25-year-old labourer, visited the Grove Police Station at around 16:40 hrs on Tuesday; the mason claimed that he was robbed of $125,000 in cash (Guyana currency), property of his employer. He also reported that he lost one red Samsung A3 cellphone, valued at $45,000.

The labourer reported he was robbed of his cellphone valued at $32,000, a wallet valued at $5,000 and containing $1,000 cash, his national identification card and other documents.

“Both men were interviewed by ranks of the Grove Police station and CID during which it was suspected their report was false in nature,” the police report noted.

As a result, a search was carried out on their respective haversacks during which the aforementioned items which they claimed they were robbed of were found therein.

They were both told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and placed into custody, and items lodged.
