Pedestrian dies after struck by teen motorcyclist

A 35-year-old labourer is now dead after he was run over by a 17-year-old motorcyclist at Charity Access Road, Essequibo Coast on Thursday.

Dead is Manniram Sooklall of Charity.

Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 19:00hrs.

Inquiries disclosed that the teen was speeding along the Access Road when he “ran over something” and stopped to see what it was.

“The teen motorcyclist said he saw it was a male lying on the northern side of the road with what appeared to be blood.”

“He panicked and drove away,” the police reported.

Sooklall was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Charity Public Hospital by police ranks where he was pronounced dead.

The teenager was later arrested and is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.

The motorcycle is lodged and is to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
