Satro Pharmacy (Home Care Medical Laboratory), one of the leading pharmacies in Region Two, on Thursday morning received GYS-170 certification from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards, making them the only pharmacy on the Essequibo Coast, to be certified.
The ceremony for the handing over of the certification was held at the state-of-the-art Pharmacy and Diagnostic Centre.
Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Itwaru and Manager of the Laboratory Marina Itwaru described the day as a memorable one for them. The couple established their pharmacy in 2013 after seeing the need for such services in the Pomeroon- Supenaam region. The pharmacy, which has become a household name, now offers a wide array of services including dialysis, ultrasound, dentistry and laboratory services.
The couple’s vision is to ensure that Essequibians are exposed to quality health care services within their reach and has opted to make the multi- million dollar investment to serve their community. Mrs Itwaru is a certified medical technologist with years of experience while her husband is a certified pharmacist.
“We are both UG graduates; it is a proud moment for us to use our skills to further contribute to residents in Region Two,” Mrs Itwaru said.
According to Marketing and Communication Officer of GNBS, Lloyd David, the certification certifies that Satro Pharmacy Home Care Laboratory of Lot 29 Colombia, Essequibo Coast is operating a clinical laboratory for tests in biochemistry, hematology, serology and urology, and is confirming to the requirements of the GNBS GYS-170:2009 general requirements for the operation of the laboratory.
