Indian firm lands US$22M contract to supervise construction of Wales power plant

Engineers India Ltd (EIL) has landed a US$22 million contract to supervise the construction of the 300-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant as part of the Gas-to-Shore project at Wales, West Bank Demerara.

India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, in a Tweet on Thursday said that EIL will provide project management consultancy services for setting up the combined cycle power plant and natural gas liquids plant.

“As part of this US$ 22 million assignment, EIL will provide Consultancy Services for setting up the Integrated Plant & manage the engineering, procurement & construction of the project on behalf of Guyanese govt,” Puri Tweeted.

The Tweet was made in addition to an announcement by President Dr. Irfaan Ali that CH4 and Lindsayca, one of five companies that submitted bids in September, 2022 to undertake the project, was approved by the government.

CH4 and Lindsayca will undertake the project under an Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) Contract which will be supervised by global supervision firm, EIL, the Head of State also confirmed.

The expected date of delivery of the 300 MW power plant is December 2024.
