Teams were rewarded for their efforts in the group stages of the MVP Sports Futsal tournament which is coordinated by the Petra Organisation being staged at the National Gymnasium,
Group winners Stabroek Ballers, Gold is Money and Back Circle each received $50,000; while runners-up, among whom were Bent Street, Future Stars and Campbellville, each pocketed $30,000. Third-place finishers after the group stage each received $20,000, while fourth-place finishers had to settle for $10,000.
According to the Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca, they developed a process to reward even though they are knocked out of the group stage.
“Over the past couple of years, we would have initiated this process of rewarding teams based on their position in the group. So that everybody, even though you don’t go through to the knockout stage, you must walk away with something from the tournament. Instead of just participating and you don’t get anything,”
He added, “We want to reward every team that participated in the tournament. As a matter of fact, we were even considering the 12 teams that were knocked out in the first round, we wanted to give them something but budgetary constraints didn’t allow us to.”
Now that the group stage is complete, attention will turn to the quarter-finals on Saturday.
From 21:00h, Gold is Money will take on Sophia followed by Bent Street doing battle with Campbellville.
Future Stars and Sparta Boss then battle followed by Stabroek Ballers up against Back Circle.
