Fire destroys Paradise house, arson suspected

A fire suspected to be arson destroyed a Paradise, East Coast Demerara house on Monday evening, the Guyana Fire Service has said.

In a release, the Fire Service received a call at around 18:32 hrs to attend to a fire at Lot 22 Paradise. The one storey wooden and concrete building which was set ablaze was owned by Davanand Ramlall.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed the building was completely engulfed in flames. As a result of the fire, the building and its contents were destroyed, leaving four people homeless.

The purported cause of the fire is a malicious setting by an unknown person, the Fire Service said.
