Three arrested after $5M worth of ganja found in car
Three men were arrested after ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) found 40 kilogrammes (KG) of marijuana with a street value of $5 million on Thursday last in a car.
CANU, in a statement, said the car was parked along the Springlands Public Road, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne).
“A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several parcels of suspected cannabis in two salt bags,” CANU stated.
At the time the narcotics were discovered, no one claimed ownership or identified the driver of the car.
On Friday, Stuart Hamer, 64, a taxi driver of No. 77 Village, Corentyne went to Springlands Police Station and claimed the vehicle belonged to him.
He also stated that he was hired by two men to transport the narcotics to Corentyne.
He identified those men as Jeremiah Smith, 18, and Damion Hinds, 42, who were arrested.
Investigations are ongoing.
