Labourer, 46, dies after pinned by tractor

A 46-year-old labourer died on Saturday after he was pinned by a tractor while ploughing a rice field. Dead is Abdool Sheriff Hussain of Little Biaboo, Mahaica Creek, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 09:30hrs.
According to reports, Hussain and a friend went to plough the rice field at Handsome Tree, Mahaica Creek.

Hussain’s friend told the Police that while they were ploughing the rice field, he saw Hussain’s tractor turn over; at the time he was about twenty feet away from Hussain.

The friend said he tried to rescue Hussain but as he couldnt manage, he had to leave the rice field and seek help.

“About five minutes later he returned to the rice field and with the help of public-spirited citizens, they turned over the tractor and took Hussain to a dam and tried to revive him, but he was motionless,” the Police reported.

The body was taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital where the official pronunciation of death was made.

The body was then taken to Bailey’s Funeral Parlour where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
