The Guyana Prison Service on Tuesday announced that Christmas “family bonding visits” will begin on December 5, 2022 at all prison locations countrywide.

“We have worked with prisoners and their families for years and appreciate how daunting an experience it can be for everyone involved, so we are always here to offer practical and emotional support”,  Nicklon Elliot, Director of Prisons (ag) is quoted by the Fire Service as saying.

During the visits, family members will be “privileged” to have a meal with their loved ones and at the same time share a few extra minutes with them,” the Prison Service stated in a release.

The final day for visits is December 11.

Families interested in visiting those in prisons can contact the Officer-in-charge at each location for further information. The contact details are listed below:

    1. New Amsterdam Prison – Superintendent of Prisons Christine George (333-2897)
    2. Lusignan Prison – Senior Superintendent of Prisons Kofi David (220-4289)

    4. Timehri Prison – Superintendent of Prisons (ag) Amias Benjamin (261-2265)
