Nationals 2022: Records tumble on opening day of Track and Field

At least three records were broken as the crust of the action in Track and Field at this year’s National Schools’ Championship commenced at National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, on Tuesday.

Though some heats were staged on Sunday, the entire Nationals switched to Track and Field with Swimming and Cycling completed.

Ranetta Liverpool of District 15 (New Amsterdam) had a throw of 34.43m in the Girls’ U-18 Javelin to erase the record of 27.00m set by Prudence Codrington of South Georgetown in 2017.

Santos Osafodos of District 15 set a new record in the male teachers’ Shot Put U-41 with a throw of 16.42m to erase the record of 12.57m set by Roy Haney of District 3 in 2017.

Saliq McClmont of District 10 had a best of 23.89m to win the female U-21 Discuss and also reset the record of 19.23m held by Marika Tyrell of District 7 in 2017.
