A resident of Princes Street, Georgetown, was on Friday murdered, allegedly by a relative who lived with her.
Dead is 76-year-old Audrey Harris-Hayde of Lot 11 Princes Street, Georgetown.
Her husband, Lawrence Hayde, told the News Room that he left the home at 07:30 hrs on Friday. While enroute to his worksite along the East Coast of Demerara, he received a call that his wife was dead.
The man said he immediately returned home, where he was greeted by the Police investigators who were already on the scene.
“When I come here, I see a set of ribbon tie down and police officers. As I entered they told me.
“My wife was in a pool of blood. When I get to understand, is her nephew struck her some part of her body with an object like a hammer and she was screaming,” the man said.
Further, he said neighbours related that there was an altercation between Audrey and a relative who lives in the lower flat of the house.
He said his wife sometimes gets very irritated and upset but often times she doesn’t know what she is doing. The relative is aware of this and he has told the relative to leave her alone, he said. But on Friday, the pair had an altercation which resulted in the relative allegedly taking an object and hitting the woman with it.
Lawrence showed the News Room the area where the woman’s body was found motionless at the side of the house. He said the suspect has escaped.
