Minibus passenger nabbed with firearm and ammunition

Police arrested a 37-year-old male minibus passenger on Sunday who was found with a .38 revolver loaded with six live matching rounds of ammunition along with 17 additional rounds.

The incident occurred along the Barnwell Public Road, East Bank Essequibo at about 14:30hrs. Ranks, acting on information received, went to Barnwell Public Road and stopped the minibus being driven by a 47-year-old man and bearing registration number BWW 7635.

Police reported that the passenger who was sitting in the front passenger seat was seen acting suspiciously.

The ranks identified themselves and requested to carry out a search. He permitted the ranks to conduct the search, during which a bulky blue rag with the firearm and ammunition was found lying at his feet.

Searches were also conducted on the other two occupants of the said minibus.

They were all told of the rank’s suspicion, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station.
