Titles for Guyanese Bell and Yong at All-Jamaica Senior Squash Championship

The 2022 All-Jamaica Senior Squash Championship was held recently at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston and Guyanese pair Jerazeno Bell and Brian Yong made their presence felt, carting off individual titles.

The Guyanese duo won in contrasting fashion in the their respective final, with Bell competing in the Men’s Over-40 and Yong the Men’s Over-50.

Bell had a straightforward victory, coasting to an 11-2, 11-2, 11-5 success over Mark Haddad.

Yong, on the other hand, had to dig deep to emerge with a 3-2 (7-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5) win over Warren Burrowes.

SUMMARISED RESULTS (of category finals)

Men’s Open: Julian Morrison defeated Jonathan Walker 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6

Ladies Open: Mary Mahfood defeated Mia Todd 7-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-8

Men’s B: Kyle Gregg defeated Aman Dhiman 11-8, 15-13, 8-11, 11-8

Men’s C: Nabeel Jawad (topped the round-robin format)

Men’s O-40: Jerazeno Bell defeated Mark Haddad 11-2, 11-2, 11-5

Men’s O-50: Brian Yong defeated Warren Burrowes 7-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5

Additionally, Todd won the David Bicknell Award for exemplary performance and sportsmanship in the Ladies’ competition, while Allan Roper won the Tony Burrowes Award, the corresponding honour for the Men’s category.
