Day/night Drag Racing on GMR&SC 2023 calendar of events
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has released its 2023 calendar of events and one of the highlights is the day/night Drag Racing scheduled for June 3 at the South Dakota Circuit.
The new addition to the calendar will mark Round Two of their Drag Racing Series with Round One carded for February 19 and Round Three, the International meet, set for August 6.
Endurance racing will open the season on January 29, followed by Drags on February 19, and then the first round of Circuit racing on March 19.
May 7 will mark the second round of Endurance and July 9 will be the second staging of Circuit racing.
Endurance will have its final leg on September 17, while the final event for the year will be the International Circuit racing meet on November 5.
In the latter half of 2022, the South Dakota Circuit was transformed through the vision of President Irfaan Ali, as he forged a strategic partnership with the GMR&SC to advance the country as a hotbed for tourists and a destination for sport tourism and entertainment.
The expanded 1.6-mile track recently hosted the final round of the Radical Caribbean Cup and throughout 2023 development works are expected to be ongoing.
The immediate aim of the club is to have an FIA Grade 3 course and with further investments, an FIA Grade 2, which would make it the premier racing facility in the Caribbean.
The next phase will entail the installation of further safety apparatus and more secure fences, while phase three will be the construction of stands and other amenities.
