Hemraj Bramdeo known as ‘Rickey Scrawley’ was on Monday sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for fatally stabbing a man in 2016.

Bramdeo, formerly of Back Street Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was sentenced by Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall at the Demerara High Court.

The Judge started Bramdeo’s sentence at 21 years and made a one-third deduction for his early guilty plea.

This means that Bramdeo will serve 14 years and the prison authorities will also have to deduct the time spent on remand from his sentence.

Last month, Bramdeo was indicted for the capital offence of murder but opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

He admitted that on March 23, 2016, at Skull City, Patentia, he unlawfully killed Dellon Bradford called ‘Chicken.’

Bramdeo was represented by attorney-at-law George Thomas, while the state was represented by attorney-at-law Muntaz Ali.

According to reports, on the day in question, Bradford, while under the influence of alcohol, was seen physically assaulting Bramdeo’s daughter.

Bramdeo, who was also intoxicated, intervened and stabbed Bradford three times – his back, abdomen and right armpit.

Bramdeo then chased Bradford some distance, while still holding the knife in his hands but was pulled away by his granddaughter.

Bradford eventually collapsed and uttered to witnesses nearby ‘is scrawly juk me three times.’

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
