For first time in history, President to invite Joint Services to Cabinet meeting to discuss national development
President Dr Irfaan Ali on Tuesday announced a plan to have the Senior Command of the Joint Services join the Cabinet in a two-day forum on national development.
“For the first time, we will have heads of the different Joint Services in a cabinet retreat with the cabinet, I don’t think we have ever had that and the value of those things is very crucial,” President Ali said while addressing annual the Police Commissioner’s Christmas Breakfast at Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The forum will provide an opportunity for the Joint Services to understand their role in the national development strategy.
President Ali also lauded the tremendous enhancement of the Guyana Police Force’s operations, the output of which, he said, is evident and being recognised, locally, regionally, and internationally.
“Whether it’s in the army, police force, CANU, the prison service, fire service; whenever we go on regional and international forums, we are not only well represented but we are well respected and that is something I am always very proud to hear,” the Head of State said.
The Commander-in-Chief reiterated to those present that they have a government that is connected to them, one that cares and one that will do its best to bring prosperity to all.
“I am telling you; I am assuring you; stick with it, stay with it, continue to do your best, continue to deliver the way you are delivering, and through patience, good things will come your way,” President Ali stated.
He also applauded Commissioner of Police (ag) Clifton Hicken’s work in communities across Guyana.
Police officers were reminded of their responsibility to build a strong society and President Ali also noted that the officers will be retrained and retooled to function in the most efficient, technologically driven modern policing environment.
