D.C. Caesar Fox Secondary (Waramadong) made an impressive start to the third KFC Goodwill School Under-18 Football tournament by comprehensively defeating Golden Grove Secondary 6-0 on Thursday, the opening day of the competition at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Facility, Providence.

Golden Grove, who along with Christianburg Wismar Secondary earned a berth in the tournament due to their second-place finish in the GuyOil School League, came up short against a Region Seven outfit who played a superb match.

Kenwyn Percy (52nd, 70th), Bevon Jones (30th), Kemron Thomas (56th), Raydon Krammer (58th), and Carlito Joseph (60th) were the ones who led the second-half charge for Waramadong.

In the earlier match, defending champions Annai Secondary took an early lead, but had to share points with Christianburg in their exciting 2-2 draw.

It only took four minutes for Narish Bartholomew to put Annai ahead and they could have gotten more had they controlled more of their offensive plays.

The Region 10 side hit back with Amani King (13th) and Kelvin Hintzen (33) for a 2-1 lead at the half. It looked like they would take the full points, but Adrian Cabral netted in the 56th.

Matches continue on Saturday with Christianburg facing SVB Academy of Suriname from 14:00h, followed by a clash between St. Benedict’s College from Trinidad and Tobago and Waramadong from 16:00h.
