Driver on the run following Canje accident

A 31-year-old man is hospitalized at the New Amsterdam Hospital after he was struck down by a man from Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice Saturday night around 20:00 hrs.

Injured is Alvin Ramnattan, an employee of the Guyana Beverage Company at Palmyra and a resident of Betsy Ground, East Canje.

The man’s uncle, Dhanraj Persaud, told the News Room that he received a video showing his nephew injured and in a serious state on the Cumberland public road (opposite Coburg Street), East Canje. At the time of the accident, Ramnattan was heading home from work on his motorcycle.

He said after making several inquiries, he was informed that his nephew was admitted at the New Amsterdam Hospital. It wasn’t until Sunday, that Persaud was told that his nephew was dropped off at the hospital. It is understood that the driver who struck him down took him to the hospital and left, he has not been located since.

Persaud disclosed that he has since filed a Police report and Police are currently searching for the driver. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the driver or information on the accident can contact the Persaud on 650-4255 or the nearest Police station.
