Man jailed for 14 years for raping woman while she slept

Rudolph Williams called “Stewart” was, on Monday sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for breaking into a woman’s house and raping her while she slept.

Williams, 35, was sentenced by Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Sexual Offences Court of the High Court in Demerara.

Last month, a jury found Williams of raping the victim between September 29-30, 2021.

During the period in question, Williams broke into the young woman’s home where he raped her while she was asleep in her bed.

Justice Kissoon, while delivering his sentencing remarks, said that such heinous crimes have become prevalent in society and a strong message must be sent to deter like-minded offenders.

He said Williams was a “ predator” and such crimes will not be tolerated.

William was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment and was ordered to undergo counselling for sex offenders while in prison.

Justice Kissoon ordered prison authorities to deduct time spent on remand from the 14-year prison sentence.
