Two teams scored a total of 20 goals on Sunday night when the One Guyana President’s Cup Football tournament continued with a double-header at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

ENet’s Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) stormed to a 4-0 success over Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), but that margin of victory was dwarfed by the 16-0 drubbing the strong Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) unit inflicted on Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).

In the opening game, Region 10 collected maximum points after sharing the spoils in their opening 3-3 draw against Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) last week.

Tyric McAllister gave Region 10 a 1-0 lead at half-time, netting in the 26th minute.

Upon resumption, the ENet-sponsored ‘men in orange’ breached the defence of Region Two on three occasions to walk off the pitch with a comprehensive win in Group B.

Andre Mayers doubled the advantage in the 54th minute and Kendolph Lewis made it 3-0 with a strike in the 81st minute, before McAllister closed out the game with a goal in 90+1.

“I came with the intention to score as many as possible. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the hat-trick, but I pushed and I got two (goals),” McAllister told News Room Sport after the win.

Region 10 Manager Patrick Dey said the strategy was to attack from the onset, as the aim was to secure maximum points.

“We had to come out attacking to get the three points required.”

“We won it on the training ground, because we improved on our training. But we got a lot more improving to do, because we have two big games coming up (against Region One on December 20 and Region Three on December 26).”

Dey said a concern for his team is niggles with the centre-forwards, something he hopes would be improved in the lead-up to the crunch phase of the tournament.

In Group A, Region Four totally annihilated Region Eight in a woefully one-sided contest.

Kelsey Benjamin led the goal-spree, netting six times (19th, 34th, 40th, 45th, 85th and 90th minutes), and Nicholas McArthur scored four times (51st, 75th, 76th and 78th minutes).

Omari Glasgow (30th and 45th+1) and Ryan Hackett (33rd and 44th) netted a double each, while Curtez Kellman (68th) and Tyrese Dennis (83rd) added one apiece.

The One Guyana President’s Cup will enter the sixth night of regional competition on Tuesday with Region One versus Region 10 at 18:00h, and Region Seven against Region Nine at 20:30h at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
