Action in the One Guyana President’s Cup continued on Tuesday evening and it was a change from the usual goal-rush to where only one goal was scored across the two matches at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
The ENet-sponsored Region 10 unit was held to a 0-0 draw against Region One, while Region Seven edged Region Nine 1-0.
The Region 10 lads, who sit second in Group B, were looking for a win to cement their chances of a top-two finish.
However, another night of not burying clear chances meant they have to win their final game in the group, and also hope other results go in their favour.
Defence and fitness once again flagged the performance. Region One too would rue the numerous opportunities from the pockets of space created.
Region One will play their final group match on Friday at the National Track and Field against Region Two, while the lads from Upper Demerara-Berbice have a tough task against the formidable Region Three unit on Monday, December 26.
Meanwhile, Region Seven got their second win as Andrew Simmons’ goal sunk Region Nine to their first loss.
Region Nine now has a final group match against the unbeaten Region Four on Friday, while Region Seven is in action on Boxing Day against Region Eight.
The tournament will make a move from West Demerara to Albion, Berbice, where Regions Three and Five will collide from 18:00h, followed by Region Eight versus Region Six from 20:30h.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals.
For each win in the group stage, teams will pocket $200,000. If the game ends in a draw, the teams will share the spoils.
In the semi-finals, a win is worth $400,000.
The winning team will walk away with $2M. Second place gets $1M.
