A 41-year-old man from Mai Mai Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam was Tuesday charged and remanded to prison for the murder of Carlus Leung-Et-Weh, 15, of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue.

Lester La Fleur, known as Eion, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge of murder, which alleged that on December 21 at Timmers Dam, he stabbed the teenager to death.

The magistrate ordered that a psychiatric evaluation is done on the accused; he was remanded to prison until January 25, 2023. La Fleur did not have legal representation.

Prior to killing the teen, the suspect, who is said to be of unsound mind, also stabbed a labourer, 26-year-old Carl Singh, several times.

Singh managed to escape the wrath and the enraged man proceeded on Angoy’s Avenue where he met the teen.

The boy’s devastated mother, Michelle Bess, told the News Room that she sent him to get his hair braided for the Christmas party; she was standing outside the house and watched her son rode off on his bicycle when she observed the suspect approaching him.

Michelle detailed that the suspect had something under his shirt and he then took it out and started stabbing her son.

The teen started screaming for his mother but when Michelle attempted to save her son, the suspect charged towards her with the weapon, and so, she ran to safety while shouting for help.

Michelle watched helplessly as the man threw her son in a trench and stabbed him to death.

  1. Robin says

Minister Frank Anthony should put in place each county or Region should be equipped with their own Mental Institutions. This will eliminate overcrowding and patients being left behind because their relative refuse to travel longs distances to visit or take home their relatives when they are released after becoming fit to be in society. This has got to be addressed as soon as possible. The nurses and doctors in Berbice institution have become complacent and need help.
    Thanks
