A Police Constable and his friend were assaulted by persons hurling beer bottles Tuesday night at a Gymkana activity held at Reliance, East Canje Berbice.
They have been identified as Constable Tariq McKalmon who is attached to the Central Police Station and his friend Lofon Humphrey, 39, a labourer of Vrymans Erven, New Amsterdam.
The incident took place at approximately 23:00 hrs. The News Room understands that the Police were patrolling the area in motor vehicle PAB 3148 with an Assistant Superintendent in charge.
They stopped at the Gymkana event where they observed a man assaulting another with a beverage case.
It is reported that Constable McKalmon, who was at the event with Humphrey and others, were reportedly attacked by several men armed with beer bottles.
The cop and Humphrey sustained injuries and were escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where they were treated and sent away.
Two men are in Police custody assisting with investigations.
