A domestic dispute between a couple turned deadly after the woman stabbed her common law partner to death after he slapped her multiple times during an argument.
Dead is Jason Bownath, 25, a labourer of 66 Middle Street Princetown, Corriverton, Berbice. The suspect, Lakeisha Garnett, 25, lived with Bownath. She is in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police disclosed that the incident occurred around midnight Sunday.
The News Room understands that the couple was at Garnett mother’s home for a family function when an argument erupted and Bownath reportedly slapped Garnett twice to her face. Garnett then left to go home and her partner followed; they continued to argue and Bownath reportedly slapped her again.
Garnett then armed herself with a kitchen knife and stabbed Bownath once to his left side chest. He collapsed and was subsequently taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital by his sister. He was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and died while receiving treatment there.
Police are investigating.
