Fire Service contains fire at Vreed-en-Hoop
Valiant efforts by firefighters on Tuesday resulted in the containment of a major fire that threatened to destroy three houses at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
The Guyana Fire Service in a statement said the fire started at about 11:21 hrs at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop.
Water tenders from the La Grange and Eccles fire stations were immediately dispatched to the location, the Fire Service noted.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed a two-storey wooden and concrete building engulfed in flames.
The building is owned and occupied by 67-year-old Harry Deodhary.
As a result of the fire, the first floor of the building was severely damaged and its contents destroyed, while the ground floor sustained water damage.
Additionally, another two-storey wooden and concrete building located next door was also affected by the blaze.
The Fire Service revealed that a pipe was slightly damaged due to the heat from Deodharry’s building.
Investigations are being conducted by the Fire Prevention Department to ascertain the cause of the fire.
