Three unvaccinated people die from COVID

Three people – one man and two women – who were infected with the novel coronavirus have died, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry, in a press release issued on Tuesday, stated that a 59-year-old man from Region Four died on January 1 and he was recorded as Guyana’s first recorded COVID-19 death for 2023. A 58-year-old man from Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice) died on January 2, the second recorded COVID-19 death for the year.

Meanwhile, a 83-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) died on December 29, 2022.

None of these individuals were vaccinated with their primary doses (that is, their first and second doses) nor their booster shots (at least a third dose).

With these deaths, a total of 1,289 were recorded in Guyana since the pandemic started in March 2020.

Aside from the deaths, 18 new infections were recorded over a 24 hour period.

Guyana has now recorded a total of 72, 261 cases since March 2020; 70,649 of those infected people recovered.

Now, there are 304 people in home isolation, 7 in institutional isolation and two patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
