Fisherman found dead at Mahaicony Creek

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 23-year-old Charran Balleram, a fisherman of Quakers Dam, Mahaicony Creek.

Balleram was found dead on Tuesday morning by his brother-in-law; he was observed laying next to an exposed electrical wire at a rice field at De Hoop Branch Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

The News Room understands that ranks from the Mahaicony Police Station received a report that Charran was observed motionless while a motorcycle was nearby on the grass.

When police arrived, Balleram was found face up and with no shoes on his feet; a GPL electrical wire was hanging from the pole nearby.

The brother-in-law informed the police that he and Balleram had planned to go fishing on Tuesday but he (Balleram) did not show up.

The brother-in-law then decided to search for him when he made the gruesome discovery.

Police did not find any marks of violence on the body.

The body is presently at the Bailey’s Funeral Parlour awaiting an autopsy.
