Region One pensioner chopped to death by relative

Police have arrested a 25-year-old labourer of Moruca, North West District for the brutal murder of an 81-year-old pensioner.

Dead is Stanley Williams of Cabora Village, Moruca, who was brutally chopped multiple times about the body.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred between January 3-4, 2023 and that the suspect is the victim’s nephew-in-law.

According to the police, the pensioner’s reputed wife, 28-year-old Verita Torres, said she and the victim were asleep at about 23:00 hrs when the suspect went to their home and requested to sleep on his grandmother’s bed.

The elderly man told the suspect that he cannot sleep on the bed and the suspect got annoyed and left.

According to the wife, shortly after, the victim went outside to urinate and subsequently started to scream; when she looked through the window, she saw the suspect chopping her husband after which he escaped.

The matter was reported to the police at the Acquero Police Station at around 09:00hrs yesterday.

Police found the victim lying on his right side, motionless and unresponsive with multiple chop wounds.

Acting on information received, ranks went to the house of the suspect where he was contacted, told of the allegation but he remained silent.

He was then arrested and escorted to the Acquero Police Station where he was placed into custody. The suspected weapon has not yet been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
