Two Guyana Harpy Eagles’ practice matches set for January 12 and 17

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has scheduled two Four-Day practice matches for the Guyana Harpy Eagles to aid in their preparation for the Regional Four-Day season that starts February 1.

The first match is set for January 12 and the second, January 17, both at the National Stadium, Providence, from 09:30h.

According to a release from the GCB, the two teams identified to participate in the first match were selected by their senior national selection panel chaired by Ravindranauth Seeram.

The GCB highlighted Leon Johnson, Clinton Pestano, Keon Joseph, Quentin Sampson, Steven Sankar Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd are unavailable for the first match.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Ryan Hercules, the players have been engaged in fitness assessments as rain has hampered on-field activities.

The first two rounds of the Regional championship will be played from February 1 to February 11 in Grenada and Antigua.

The tournament will then have a break and resume on March 15 and run until April 1 for the final three rounds, which will be played in Trinidad and Tobago.

That will be followed by a new domestic red-ball tri-series, the Headley-Weekes series, which will feature three four-day matches and will be played from April 18 to 6 May at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Team Headley and Team Weekes (named in honour of George Headley and Everton Weekes) will be selected from the best performers in the 2023 West Indies Championship and players outside the starting West Indies Test XI. The new West Indies Academy will provide the third team.
