Vigilance man caught with unlicensed pistol, ammo

A 34-year-old resident of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, was arrested by Police in the wee hours of Saturday after he was found with an unlicensed Glock 17 (9mm) pistol and two matching rounds of ammunition.

Colwin Barnwell called ‘Timmo’, a vendor was nabbed by ranks on mobile patrol in Friendship, ECD at about 01:56 hrs.

Police Headquarters reported that Barnwell was observed with a black plastic bag in his hand and walked away when he saw the ranks.

According to the police, after he was told to stop, Barnwell ran, but the ranks gave chase, and he was caught.

The ranks searched Barnwell and the firearm and ammunition were found in his crotch.

Police said Barnwell was asked if he was a licensed firearm holder, and he responded no.

He was then told of the offence committed and claimed that he bought the firearm when he was in Aranka, Region Seven.

Police Headquarters applauded the tremendous efforts by ranks in taking several unlicensed weapons off the streets during the past few days, including two high-powered assault weapons.
