Teen drowns at Linden’s Blue Lake during outing with friends
An 18-year-old student of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region Ten reportedly drowned on Sunday at the Kara Kara Blue Lake in Linden while swimming with his friends.
Dead is Cam Thomas, a student of the Linden Technical Institute.
The Guyana Police Force said detectives in the mining town are probing the incident.
According to a statement, Thomas was with four friends: two students, aged 15 and 17, both of Lower Kara Kara; a taxi driver, 23, of Central Amelia’s Ward; and a 20-year-old construction worker.
Thomas went under sometime between 16:20hrs and 16:46hrs while swimming from the eastern to the western side of the lake.
“The 20-year-old further related that he observed Thomas submerged under the water when they were about twenty feet from the eastern shore. He attempted to rescue Thomas but was unsuccessful,” the Police stated.
The incident was subsequently reported to the Police and an investigation was launched.
Efforts made by the ranks to recover the body proved futile
