An unvaccinated man, 65, from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) died on January 8 after he was infected with the novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19.
The ministry, in a press release issued on Tuesday, announced the man’s death.
With this death, a total of 1,291 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in Guyana since the pandemic started in March 2020.
Aside from the deaths, 58 new infections were recorded over a 24 hour period.
Guyana has now recorded a total of 72, 538 cases since March 2020; 70,903 of those infected people recovered.
Now, there are 323 people in home isolation, 19 in institutional isolation and two patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
