One of the suspects involved in the murder of Brian “DJ Viper” Pittam was handed over to the Police on Tuesday night.

Dwayne Thomas, 20, a labourer of Laluni, Soesdyke/Linden Highway showed up at his sister’s house in West Coast Berbice a day after the crime.

The sister, Donna Allen said he reportedly confessed that he chopped Pittam to death in self defence and so, she turned him in at the Timehri Police Station.

Another brother, Andy Thomas who was also involved in the incident is on the run and Allen is pleading with him to turn himself him.

“I heard about the incident in Laluni. So, yesterday I went to work and when I came home he [Dwayne] was by me and he told me that he was involved and he chopped the man and I told him this is serious and me and my mother we took him to Timehri Station last night,” Allen told the News Room.

According to the woman, her brother disputed reports by the Police that they attacked Pittam’s father-in-law, 51-year-old Kumar Bacchus.

Police Headquarters in a statement disclosed that Pittam was drinking at a shop with his Bacchus when the three suspects confronted Kumar and dealt him a lash to his face.

However, Allen said her brother explained that they were at a party in Laluni on Sunday. Dwayne claimed that they were doing stunts on their motorcycles when the dirt soiled Bacchus’ car.

“He told me that they had a party and they have motorbikes and one of them were doing ‘stunts’ on the bikes and the sand [soiled] the man’s car,” Allen said.

Bacchus then confronted Dwayne and his friends about dirtying his car and Dwayne reportedly told him that he will wash the car.

“…he [Dwayne] like he talk hard to the man ‘hard’ and the man slap he.”

Dwayne’s friend then asked Bacchus why he slapped him and Bacchus in response allegedly slapped the friend.

Dwayne then picked up a bottle and threw it at Bacchus, got on his bike and rode home.

But when he reached home, the sister said Dwayne realised that he left his friend alone and went back to the party.
“When he gone back there was a big crowd and people had cutlasses and wood and the DJ was running with a big stick to lash him and he started to look for something and, in the process, he see a cutlass on a bicycle and pulled out the cutlass, he said the boy lash him first and he chopped him,” Allen explained.

Dwayne went home for the second time and told his brother, Andy what transpired and together they went out again.
While at the scene, Andy asked Dwayne to show him who slapped him and Dwayne pointed to Bacchus.
Dwayne then left his brother and said that was the last time he saw him.

The family is now pleading with Andy to turn himself him.

“We are pleading with the other brother that is on the run, please give yourself over to the Police.”

Police had reported that Pittam was chopped after he intervened during a confrontation with Bacchus and the suspects.

The man’s left thumb, index finger and middle fingers were severed and his left wrist was partially severed. He also received a deep chop wound to the back of the neck.
