Teen dies, one critical after motorcycle collides with tractor on Wakenaam island

A teen boy from the island of Leguan has died after the motorcycle he was on collided with a tractor on Tuesday at the Friendship Public Road, Wakenaam Island, Region Three.

Dead is 16-year-old Mohamed Ameer Khan of Belle Plaine, Wakenaam. He was the pillion rider. The driver of the bike, Vikash Singh of Hubu, Parika, East Bank Essequibo, is hospitalised in a critical condition.

The Guyana Police Force said the tractor, with trailer, was being driven by a 63-year-old man of Free and Easy, Wakenaam Island.

According to the Police, the tractor was heading in the northern direction along the western side of Friendship Public Road while the motorcycle was proceeding south along the eastern side of the said road in the opposite direction. Khan reportedly lost control of the bike and it collided with right side rear wheel of the trailer.

As a result of the collision, Khan and Singh fell into a nearby trench on the northern side of the said road and received several injuries to their head and about their bodies.

The pair was picked up by public-spirited persons and taken to the Wakenaam Public Hospital where they were initially treated.

Khan was subsequently transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Singh was admitted at the Wakenaam Hospital in a critical state.
