One week after he was involved in an accident along the Potaro Road in Bartica, Region Seven, Wesley Hopkinson, a Grade Three pupil of the Two Miles Primary School, remains unconscious.

The seven-year-old boy was struck down by 35-year-old female driver just after he exited his school bus. The driver has since been placed on $50,000 station bail.

The lad’s mother, Cinella Hopkinson, told the News Room he is hospitalised on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

She further related that CT scans has shown no internal injuries.

The day of the accident, Cinella said that she heard a loud bang but did not know it was her son who was struck down.

“The school bus that he does normally catch stop and drop him off and the next thing I hear is a bang; and when I run out people say my son get knocked down,” the woman had told the News Room.

A passing car quickly picked up the injured boy and rushed him to the Bartica Hospital.

He was airlifted from the Bartica Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital hours after the accident.

Cinella believes that the female driver was on her way to pick up her children from school when the accident occurred.
