Three persons were arrested on Friday after 523 grammes of cannabis and a gun were found in their possession at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement noted that the home of Andrea Lake, a 55-year-old housewife was searched in the presence of her boyfriend, Deon Gherow, 55 and her daughter, Toniyanna Skeete, 28.
During the search which occurred at 5:00hrs, nothing illegal was found in the house.
However, a search was carried out in the yard where ranks observed disturbed soil in the backyard.
A rank then dug up the said area and found a red metal tin. A further inspection of the tin revealed a bulky black plastic bag. A black .38 Revolver without a serial number was also seen inside the tin.
A further search was conducted under the concrete bridge at the front of the yard, which leads to the premises. During the search, a bulky black plastic bag was seen which contained a quantity of suspected cannabis.
The three suspects were told of the offence committed and were escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station with the suspected firearm and cannabis, which was weighed and amounted to 523 grammes.
The suspects were placed in custody pending further investigations and charges.
