Better weapons part of Guyana’s plan to benefit from India’s military support

Guyana hopes to modernise its military and forthcoming support from India is expected to do just that, President Dr. Irfaan Ali said recently.
The Guyanese Head of State, during an interview with India’s NDTV, said that government ministers will be leading technical groups meant to quickly advance the partnership with India on military support.
“We are looking at many things, one technology… weapons. We are also looking at the aviation side,” President Ali said.
He later added, “It is a comprehensive package that we would like to discuss with India.”
And the President believes that India is a good partner in this regard because the country has developed and demonstrated good capacity and capabilities.
During another press engagement, with the WION news channel, President Ali noted that one option under consideration is the purchase of hardware and military equipment from India.
Several ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) are benefitting from or have completed courses in the South Asian nation through the country’s Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training programme for friendly foreign countries.
