Woman nabbed with marijuana, cocaine says she sold drugs to ‘mine’ her children


Onghel Walcott, a 38-year-old resident of LaGrange, West Bank Demerara, was nabbed with a quantity of marijuana and cocaine- narcotics she said she was selling to provide for her three children.

Police Headquarters reported that the woman’s house was searched after 05:00hrs Sunday. During the search, a bulky plastic bag was seen on a table in the hall.

The plastic bag was opened in her presence and several transparent ziplock bags were seen which contained suspected cannabis. She was told of the offence committed and under caution, she reportedly replied: “I selling da weed to mind me three children.”

A further search was carried out in her bedroom where, in a clothes basket between some clothing, one transparent plastic bag containing several small, rocklike substances suspected to be cocaine was found.

Again, Walcott was told of the offence committed and under caution she replied: “I selling da cocaine fo mine me children.”

She was arrested and escorted to La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, along with the suspected cannabis and cocaine.

On arrival at the station, and in her presence, the suspected cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 65 grammes, while the cocaine amounted to nine grammes.

Walcott was placed into custody and is slated to be charged and make her court appearance this week.
