The Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform Aubrey Norton has appointed Dawn Hastings Williams to serve as General Secretary of the party.

She replaces Geeta Chandan-Edmond, who recently resigned from the post.

“This opportunity is taken to inform the people of Guyana that Mrs. Dawn Hastings Williams, MP, has been appointed General Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform. Mrs. Hastings-Williams is a long-standing member of our Party who is eminently qualified to serve as General Secretary. We wish Mrs. Hastings-Williams all the best as she performs the functions of the General Secretary,” Norton said during a press conference on Thursday.

Dawn Hastings-Williams has been a member of the National Assembly since 2011.

She previously served in various Cabinet positions including as Minister within the Ministry of Communities and Minister of Public Affairs.

She was the first indigenous Minister of State.

Hastings was nominated as a candidate for the People’s National Congress (PNC) in February 2010.

She was elected to the National Assembly for the PNC’s APNU alliance in the 2011 general election, where she won a seat for the Geographic Constituency of Region Seven.

Hastings was re-elected in the 2015 general election and was later appointed as a Principal Political Secretary of the PNC in 2017. She was elected again in the 2020 general election.
