A 24-year-old man from Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara was reportedly shot by two men on a motorcycle while making his way home Wednesday night.
Police Headquarters reported that Steven Surujbally was attacked at about 20:30hrs.
“The victim was walking home heading in a southern direction when the suspects rode up to him on a motorcycle, registration number unknown, from a northern direction,” the Police reported.
Surujbally related that the suspects dismounted the motorcycle and walked up to him. The injured man said he suspected the men were there to harm him, so he put up a fight during which one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and shot him in the chest. The bullet exited his right side back.
After shooting him, the suspect escaped on the motorcycle.
Police said Surujbally was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition.
Several persons were questioned during the ongoing investigations.
