Bethel Chenezie, the Nigerian national who carried out a daring early morning attack at the President’s official residence – State House – on December 15, 2022 was released from the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday last.
Sources confirmed that he was released into the custody of the Guyana Police Force.
Chenezie is expected to make his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he will be charged and likely remanded to prison.
Bethel spent weeks on a ventilator after he was shot three times during the attack. He was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after he claimed to have had “visions” and that he went to State House to sit with the President and share those visions.
During the attack, Telon Perreira, a Presidential Guard was stabbed some five times to his neck and body by Chenezie. The Presidential Guard was also hospitalised and discharged from the hospital on December 29, 2022.
During the investigations, Chenezie’s residence was also searched and persons with whom he had recent dealings were also questioned.
