Guyana’s top Badminton player Narayan Ramdhani continued his impressive run in 2023, winning the Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles in the Alberta Colleges’ Athletics Conference (ACAC) Tournament #2 at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Alberta, Canada, at the weekend.

Representing King’s University, Ramdhani was the number one seed in the draw of 16 and lived up to that billing, storming to victory in the final.

The Guyanese standout emerged with a 21-10, 21-17 victory against number two seed Sanskar Chopra to seal an unbeaten run in the tournament.

After gaining a bye in the Round of 16, Ramdhani topped Gurmanjot Singh 21-12, 21-8 in the quarter-finals, and then outplayed Anthony Olson 21-6, 21-14 in the semi-finals.

Ramdhani also teamed up with Cecilia Wolski to win the Mixed Doubles, beating Jason Chiu and Carmen Wong 21-11, 21-8 in the final.

Ramdhani and Wolski, the number one seeded pair, gained a bye in the first round, before defeating Gurmanjot Singh and Taylor Burton 21-17, 21-6 in the quarter-finals and Anirudh Sharma and Ivy Ung 21-14, 21-16 at the semi-final stage.

In the ACAC Tournament #1, Ramdhani also won the Men’s Singles, extending his dominance from 2022 when he topped the Men’s Singles Championship overall and was awarded the ACAC Athlete-of-the-Year and All Canadian Award.

The third ACAC tournament for 2023 will be held on Ramdhani’s home turf at King’s University on February 3.

Thereafter, on February 18-19, the ACAC Badminton Championship will be held to determine the athletes who will represent ACAC at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (Nationals) to be held in March.
