Police investigate alleged drowning of West Bank man at Ituni

Police in Regional Division #10 have launched an investigation into the alleged drowning of a man at Kamakabra Creek, Ituni.

Dead is 31-year-old Patrick Lord of Vive-La-Force, West Bank Demerara.

According to a statement by the Police, the man allegedly drown on January 23, 2023, at around 16:00 hrs.

Investigations revealed that at around 06:00 hrs on Monday, Lord and his brother, Paul Lord, and their co-workers Allan Hughes, Roy Joseph, Jermaine Caleb Williams, Andy Seeram and Randolph Seeram, went to Silicone Green Sawmill at Yarrowkabra on the Soesdyke, Linden Highway.

At about 11:00 hrs, the group headed to UNAMCO Road, Upper Berbice River. During their journey, the group stopped in Linden for fuel and food. Then at around 15:30 hrs, they arrived at Ituni where they made another stop at Rankin Shop to get supplies. The group also purchased a bottle of rum, which they drank before continuing their journey.

However, the group made another stop at Kamakabra Creek. The investigations revealed that Patrick Lord went to swim near a koker and disappeared in the water.

The group frantically searched for about ten minutes, after which Paul Lord found his brother beneath the water and pulled him out.

The men rushed him to the Ituni Health Centre, where a Medic checked him before transferring him to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was transported to the funeral parlour where a Post Mortem Examination is to be conducted. The police are still investigating the alleged drowning.
